Spyro's Crystal Dragon

This is a tribute to one of my favorite games when I was younger: the original Spyro the Dragon, which came out for PS1 almost 20 years ago now in 1998. If you are unfamiliar with the game, all the adult dragons have become imprisoned in crystal and you, as the young dragon Spyro, have to rescue them. It was such a great game back in the day, with varied levels, catchy music, and interesting characters. The character Spyro has gone though lots of iterations throughout the years, with the most recent being part of the Skylanders series. While it is quite a bit different from what he used to be, I can't hold it against the developers for wanting to keep their character new. Honestly, if I was 10 when the Skylanders came out I would have thought they were the coolest things. It all started with this guy though, so I hope I brought back some good memories to any of you who were lucky enough to play this game back when the concept was new and the graphics were awesome.

Anyways, I tried to make it as faithful to the in-game model as I could, and the low-poly style (which looked so cool back then!) was quite interesting to emulate. I recently got a pasta roller (for clay), and it was absolutely invaluable for making the sheets smooth and uniform. I built the inside up, then covered it with pieces I cut out from the rolled sheet of clay. I didn’t get it perfectly, and some of the planes aren’t exactly straight, but I think it’s decent enough. I am usually happy with how my sculptures turn out, although it does take me months sometimes... Don’t know if that is good or bad, but I hoped you enjoyed it anyways!

Materials: Aluminum armature wire, aluminum foil, epoxy putty, Sculpey original, Sculpey firm, primer, acrylic paint, sealant.

Dimensions: 5¾ inches tall, 4½ inches long, and 1½ inches wide.
